Gifted and Talented

Public Announcement of Referral Period for
Gifted/Talented Program

Beginning December 4, 2023, Port Aransas ISD will be accepting referrals for students who may qualify for Gifted/Talented Services. This program is designed for students who perform at, or shows the potential for performing at, a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to same aged peers. Potential candidates should exhibit intellectual and creative thinking abilities, at an extraordinary level, not normally served in the regular classroom. Services will be provided upon identification of the student’s educational need.

Anyone wishing to refer a student who attends Port Aransas ISD is encouraged to pick up a form from a campus office and complete it. If you are unable to stop by the school, please call a campus to have one mailed or emailed to you. Forms must be returned to the student’s campus no later than 3:00pm on December 19, 2023. For more information or if you need GT information in another language, please contact PAISD GT Coordinator at 361-749-1209 or garrett@paisd.net.

     Thank you!

STATE GOAL FOR SERVICES FOR GIFTED STUDENTS

Students who participate in services designed for gifted students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment. High school graduates who have participated in services for gifted students will have produced products and performances of professional quality as part of their program services by focusing on the goal of this plan - that gifted students develop "innovative products and performances that are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment" - we can assure that Texas meets the future with confidence that all its students have been challenged to work at the highest levels. Through the combined efforts of the Texas Education Agency, the regional education service centers, local district personnel, and the communities they serve, all children will have an education that provides challenging academic opportunities that enable them to reach their full potential.

The Port Aransas ISD Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students was approved by the Board of Trustees on October 18, 2023.

The Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students (English) (Spanish) was revised in 2009 by the Texas Education Agency and approved by the State Board of Education. This document provides requirements for and guidance to districts as they meet the unique needs of an important special population in Texas.
